YULitle flying clamp start

Requires: (2) double string flying/floating clamps, although a starting clamp may also be used as the outside clamp. The cool video is part of a great set of demonstrations by YULitle.

The YULitle pattern tensions the left main by placing a clamp outside the frame, a major advantage over the JayCee method start.

The flying clamps are shown in blue, segments of string that are not directly tensioned are shown in yellow.

Set anchor clamp

This video example shows a racquet with the starting loop at the head of the racquet. The double string clamp will be placed inside frame at the head clamping both sides of the starting loop. YULitle shows a great technique for getting a little tension inside and behind the anchor clamp by double (parallel) pulling the mains before setting the clamp. This is not the same as tensioning one string at a time, so we leave the illustration color yellow, even though some (probably around half total tension since both strings are sharing) tension has been applied.

Tension and outside clamp L1

Tension 1st main on the left, then apply clamp tightly against the outside of the frame. Although not shown in the video, it is assumed a scrap piece of string was placed within the clamp to keep from having to make a drastic adjust before using it again on two strings.

Tension R1 and move clamp

Tension the first main on the right, move double clamp down but still on L1, R1.

Thread, tension, and clamp R2 main

Thread and tension 2nd right main, move double clamp up to R1, R2. YULitle does this (rather than move to the left side) to allow more room for the clamps to sit side by side, and to get a shot at tensioning out that segment on the left first main that was in or behind the anchor clamp when direct tension was applied.

Retension L1, move outside clamp in

Put the first main on the left back into the tensioning head, and release outside clamp. Re-apply clamp inside grommet. Continue by threading and tension L2, R3, L3, etc.
