Starting Pin Method

Requires: (2) double string flying/floating clamps, and a starting pin.

Set starting pin and anchor clamp.

Insert starting pin into right main adjacent to starting loop. Thread the other side of the second right main and apply double clamp onto untensioned r1 and r2.

The starting pin method is economical and efficient.

The flying clamps are shown in blue, the starting pin is in purple. Segments of string that are not directly tensioned are shown in yellow.

Variation:

KlipperUSA includes a starting pin in the stringing machines they sell, and reference its use in their instructions. (inexpensive starting pins are available for purchase at their website) Their recommendations include moving the anchor clamp down enough to allow enough room for the starting pin clamp to be used between the anchor clamp and the frame. It would reverse the positions of the clamps when they stack later in this example.

Tension starting loop right side and clamp

Tension the right 1st main and apply double clamp on R1 and the starting pin

Tension starting loop left side and clamp

Tension 1st main on the left, then move the double clamp from the bottom and clamp R1 and L1.

Remove starting pin and continue

Remove starting pin, thread string through R2, tension, clamp. Continue with L2, then alternate.
