Universal ATW

Requires: no extra gear needed, short side 1 main shorter than normal one piece lengths
Illustration built from RSI Another ATW method description (November 2007 issue)
This pattern allows a stringer to string crosses top to bottom using 1 string piece on racquets with the mains normal pattern ending at the throat.

Leave outermost mains

String all but outermost mains. Tie off short side at head. Make sure to leave room on the long side clamp to weave the 2nd cross.

This pattern is a variation from the Basic ATW pattern. This pattern simplifies basic ATW, in that it does not require a method change depending upon the total number of crosses.

This pattern is also referred to as the nocount pattern. In this pattern the short side is tied off at the head and the long side crosses are started at the 2nd cross every time. This provides a complete path around the racquet head regardless of total even or odd crosses, eliminating the need to count the crosses and alter the pattern.

By reversing the long side path, ie. completing the long side main, bottom cross, then top cross completes the loop around the frame before the crosses, leading to the quick box in specific and the box family of variants in general.

Thread crosses starting at 2nd

Thread and tension crosses using the long side, skipping the 1st cross. Continue until crosses are complete.

Thread the box

Weave and tension the outer main on the side the crosses ended up on, then thread the first cross, then weave the final main. Tension and tie off.
